Where to Buy an iPhone
The iPhone is among the biggest hit consumer electronics products ever and everyone wants one. The question is not whether to buy an iPhone, but where to buy an iPhone?
Where’s the Best Place to Buy an iPhone?
Sure, you can go directly to the source and buy an iPhone from Apple’s online or retail stores, but you have lots of other choices about where to buy your iPhone.
The answer is that there’s not really a single store or website that is best. Every store or website that sells the iPhone sells the same models, for roughly the same price. So, you’re really choosing based on convenience or small, limited-time promotions.
Things to Consider When Shopping for an iPhone
While there’s no single rule about what makes one store better than another for buying an iPhone, some factors that might make a store the best place for you to buy an iPhone include:
- Promotions: Because everyone sells the same iPhone for basically the same price, retailers sometimes offer bonus promotions to get you to choose them. You could snag a free case, gift card, or another incentive if you keep an eye out for deals.
- Existing Relationship: Sometimes, the best place to buy an iPhone is the easiest — and that may be from your current phone company. Buying a new phone from your current company makes for a smooth transition.
- Trade-In Value: Some retailers will offer a trade-in credit for your old phone to discount the price of the new one. The more trade-in cash you get, the better a deal may be.
Should I Wait for a Sale to Buy an iPhone?
Nope. That’s because the iPhone almost never goes on sale. Apple tightly controls the prices of its products, and because the products are in such high demand, they don’t need to have their price cut to sell. From time to time, there are small sales — often around the holidays — or a single retailer may temporarily discount a few models. You’ll rarely save more than 10% off an iPhone’s retail price, and often less than that, so there’s not much reason to wait for a sale.

Where to Buy an iPhone
All of that said, here are some of the major retail options for buying an iPhone.
iPhones on Amazon
Of course the world’s largest retailer can sell you the world’s most popular phone. How could it not? All iPhones you buy from Amazon come unlocked, meaning you can use them with any phone company.
The Apple Store
You can, of course, purchase an iPhone at any of Apple’s nearly-500 retail stores across the globe. The Apple Store is equipped to sell you an iPhone and activate the phone service that is required to use the iPhone (you can do that at most other stores, too). Plus, you can get lots of great accessories.
Visit the list of Apple Stores to find the one closest to you or buy it online.
iPhones at AT&T Stores
With over 2,200 AT&T stores in the U.S., AT&T stores are more widely spread than Apple stores. These stores sell iPhones that work on the AT&T network (big surprise, right?) and activate them on site.
Use AT&T’s store finder to locate the closest AT&T to you or visit AT&T’s online store.
Authorized Phone Company Resellers
While each major phone company has its own official stores, there are also lots of companies that resell phones and services for multiple carriers. These authorized resellers can be good locations to buy the iPhone. Not every authorized reseller location will have the iPhone, but don’t ignore these businesses just because they’re not carrier-owned.
iPhones at Best Buy
In 2008, Best Buy became the first major retailer besides Apple and AT&T to be authorized to sell the iPhone. Though you won’t find big discounts or sales here, Best Buy does occasionally run promotions that increase value and sells used iPhones at a discount.
Craigslist and eBay Auctions
As with almost anything else you’re looking to buy, Craigslist and eBay can generally help you out. Buyer beware, though. Make sure you know what you’re buying, are buying from a highly rated dealer (on eBay, at least. Craigslist doesn’t offer ratings) and make smart purchases. Be wary of deals that seem too good to be true, and make sure you’re buying a new unit (unless you’re looking for used), or you could end up out money and with a subpar phone.
iPhones From Pre-Paid Carriers
The iPhone is also available through a number of pre-paid phone companies in the U.S., including Boost Mobile, Cricket, Straight Talk, and Virgin. There are some trade-offs with pre-paid companies, but if you’re willing to make them, you’ll probably save some money on your monthly bill compared to the major phone companies. Learn more about pre-paid carriers, their pricing, and where to buy.
As with the pre-paid carriers, these smaller phone companies offer options that the major providers don’t: in this case, service to rural and remote areas. Phone prices are roughly the same as the major carriers, though monthly plans differ. Check out this list of regional carriers who offer the iPhone to see if there’s one in your area.
iPhones From Sprint
Now that the U.S.’s third-largest mobile phone company is offering the iPhone, you’ll be able to buy that phone in its retail stores, too. Find your closest Sprint location.
iPhones From Target
Another major big-box retailer that’s in on the iPhone business. You can buy an iPhone and service plan from AT&T or Verizon at its nearly 1,700 U.S. stores. Target only sells the iPhone in-store, though, so while you can learn about it online, you’ll have to head into a store to buy it. Find your closest Target.
iPhones From T-Mobile
The last of the four major U.S. phone companies started carrying the iPhone in 2022. As a result, you can now buy all current iPhone models at T-Mobile’s retail and online stores. Find your closest T-Mobile store.
Used and Refurbished Phone Resellers
Most of the websites that buy and sell used iPods also buy and sell used iPhones. Shop around on these sites for the lowest prices. And even though the quality is generally very good here, remember that these phones will be used and sometimes without a warranty. As always, you’ll need to activate through Apple or a phone company.
iPhones From Verizon
The U.S.’s biggest cell phone company began selling the iPhone at its retail stores on Feb. 10, 2022. Find your closest store.
Walmart and Sam’s Club
The world’s largest retailer began selling the iPhone in 2009 and now offers the hardware along with the Straight Talk prepaid service. Occasionally, Wal-Mart offers discounts on iPhones that you won’t see elsewhere. Find your local Wal-Mart here. Its sibling company, Sam’s Club, also offers the iPhone.

The Best Time to Buy An iPhone
The decision to buy your first iPhone is not one that you’ll regret. Androids are good, but iPhone technology is among the best and most secure in the world. Apple just does things differently. If you’re switching from an Android platform, you may be disappointed in the beginning because some of your old apps aren’t available, but you’ll adapt quickly.
When is the best time to buy an iPhone? That depends on what you’re looking for. Apple releases a new generation every year, but older iPhones are viable with today’s operating systems and storage requirements. If you’re using the iPhone 6, maybe it’s time to upgrade to a newer model. Going from an iPhone XS to an iPhone 11 won’t be that much of a change.
Before buying a new iPhone, you should check with your carrier. AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint regularly run promotions that will make your purchase more cost-effective. Check the calendar too. Retail stores have big electronics sales periodically throughout the year. Black Friday at Best Buy and Cyber Monday at Amazon are good examples of this.
The Early History Of The iPhone
To understand the timing on when best to buy an iPhone, let’s take a look back at the history of the brand. The first iPhone was released on June 28, 2007. The price was $499 for 4GB and $599 for the 8GB model. Only credit card sales were allowed, and you had to use AT&T as your phone service provider. There were lines of people waiting outside every Apple store.
By September 2007, just three months later, the 4GB model had been dropped from production and the 8GB was selling for $399. Take note of this. Never buy the new model on its release date. Like most electronics, if you wait a while, the price will go down. You’ll get the best price on older generations in the months after a new model is released.
By July 2008, when Apple launched the iPhone 3G, AT&T had started subsidizing iPhone purchases. They asked for a two-year commitment and added a small amount to each monthly bill. The idea turned out to be a winner. Verizon, Sprint, Cricket Wireless, and Virgin Mobile joined the party when the iPhone 4S came out in October 2022.
The Best Months To Buy An iPhone
The best month to buy the newest iPhone is January. The holiday rush is over, and prices start to come down. Think of this in terms of a one-year cycle. The new models are released in the fall. By January, all the kinks have been worked out, but you’re still nine months away from the next generation being released. With post-holiday sales, it’s a great time to get a good deal.
If you’re looking for an older model, buy it in October. Apple has launched sixteen iPhone generations since 2007. The nine most recent versions have all come out in September. When new product hits the shelves, older models go on sale. That’s the time to buy. The six previous generations that are still available for sale in stores are:
- iPhone 7 and 7 Plus
- iPhone SE (if you can find it)
- iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
- iPhone XS and XS Max
- iPhone XR
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Max
The worst months to purchase a new iPhone are July and August. You may get a decent price because it’s close to the end of the annual sales cycle, but it’s only a month or two before a new generation is due to come out. If you’re looking for the current version available in the summer, wait until fall and you’ll pay a whole lot less for it.

Best Time To Buy An iPhone? When Carriers Run Promotions
I did a quick Google search this morning for carrier promotions on the iPhone. Sprint is offering the iPhone 11 for $15 per month. AT&T will give you $700 off the same model, along with a $150 Reward Card. T-Mobile says they’ll give you the iPhone 11 for free if you switch to their service. These are all offers you want to explore before making a final decision.
The decision by AT&T in 2022 to subsidize iPhone purchases opened up the door for creative marketing and pricing by all carriers. Before you sign up with anyone, make sure you read the fine print. Each promotion is tied to a contract commitment. $15 a month is a great deal, but how long do you have to pay that lease fee? Will you own the phone when it’s done?

The Best Deals On Used iPhones
I saw a used iPhone 11 on sale for $475 at Swappa this morning. Apple still has that model listed on their site for $699. That’s a pretty significant savings and they’re not the only ones offering those kinds of prices. You can buy a used iPhone on eBay, Amazon, Decluttr, Gazelle, and dozens of other sites. You can even buy one direct from Apple.
If you go this route, it’s important to understand the difference between “used” and “refurbished.” A used iPhone is exactly what it sounds like. Someone else has used it and they’re now selling it as is. A refurbished phone has gone through diagnostics and usually comes with a warranty of some kind. Be careful. You generally get what you pay for.
Do You Need A New iPhone After An iOS Upgrade?
Apple usually comes out with an updated version of iOS every year. It is not to force you into buying a new phone. Granted, you can’t run iOS 13 on an iPhone 4. The older devices simply don’t have the memory capacity to hold all that data. You can, however, go back several generations and not have a problem.
Декор Чехла на телефон своими руками. Декупаж чехла/ DIY/ Hand Made/ Создаем красоту!)))
The iPhone 7 was offered with 32GB, 128GB, or 256GB of storage. The iPhone 11 comes with 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB. If you bought either of the top two options on the seven, you have the exact same capacity as the eleven does. The iPhone 11 Pro comes with up to 512GB, but you don’t need anywhere near that to run iOS 13.
iPhone users express concern when their device stops working after updating their iOS. The fix is easy. If your phone freezes, hold down the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo. Release both buttons and your phone will be fine. You can still go out and buy a new iPhone after that, but it won’t be because the old one doesn’t work.
Final Thoughts: Best Time To Buy An iPhone
Now you know the best times to buy an iPhone. Make sure to pay attention to timing when purchasing your new phone, it can save you a lot. Plus, when you get a new iPhone you can then download apps that pay you money or reward apps! Turn your new iPhone purchase into a money maker.
